DESCRIPTION:
APW - South Bend, Grade 294 (marked), 21J, 16S, gold-filled original South Bend "Panama" HC with attractive engraving detail including lakeside scenes to its front and rear, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, sunburst pattern nickel damascene, s#490013. Comes as pictured with a purple silk "The South Bend Watch" marked wrap. An uncommon and very attractive top grade watch; the Grade 294 and its open face equivalent the Grade 295 were South Bend's finest quality early 16 size products. The total production of the Grade 294 was 1500 made.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates, fine scratch between escape wheel jewel setting and edge of plate, few micro-fine scratches elsewhere; dial with hl below seconds-register at 6, fine scratch above 2, few pinpoint surface nicks; excellent hands; case shows light to medium wear, ding to band at 5, scattered lesser dings and nicks elsewhere to band and to perimeters of front and rear, reduced engine turning and engraving detail, case front and rear closing with areas of gap to band; tight bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal with some glue excess at its seat. Purple wrap shows light wear, some minor fraying to its reverse.
